    creating system image backup

Host OS : Win 7 Home Premium
Guest OS : Win 8 installed inside VMware player.

    Question :
I have been doing system image backup weekly on my host OS.
Do I need to do the same on my guest OS too ?

I would think the VM should be included in the system image of Windows 7.

    Hello t-4-2,

A system image backup would included everything in your Windows 7 including the virtual machine program and it's settings.

However, it depends on where you set the VHD file for the VM to be saved at. If you set to be saved on say drive/partition D, then the VHD file will not be included in the system image unless you also included D along with C (Windows 7) when you created the system image. If you don't delete D, then it really doesn't matter if the VHD was included in the system image since it will still be referenced by the restored image.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

I have not set VHD file to be saved on anything.
I have not gone that far yet.
That is why I posted this question to know for sure what to do.

Okey doke. It just depends on that, but you do not need to create a system image in your guest since it will be saved in the VHD.

All you really need to do is make sure you have a back up of the virtual hard drive file.

Yes, were on VMware Player after all, even better is to make a copy or a zip containing the whole VM folder (in this case Win8).
If anything goes wrong in this VM, just replace the virtual harddisk (vmdk, vhd, whatever you've got there) with the clean copy from the backup.
