You can install Windwos XP on VMware on Windows 8, but I do NOT think it will play games well. Virtual machines are not for playing games. I recommend you install Widnwos XP on a physical computer to play Combat Arms.

You can always give it a try in a VM. The worst case scenario.
But if its working well you don't need to mess with dualboot issues (when installing) of XP disabling Windows 8 boot and so on.

For example if combat arms requires:

    • Windows 2000 or XP
    • Pentium 3, 1 GHz
    • 256Mb RAM
    • GeForce 2 MX or equivalent video card
    • DirectX 9.0C
    • 2Gb Hard Disk Space
    • 128 kb/s Internet Connection

then VMware can handle it if your pc is good enough.

    Thanks for the info.

I used XP in VMware and works pretty good with older games.
My graphic card has 1024mb but the VM only uses 128mb which is enough for the most scenarios.

Unfortunately I don't have any iso's so you'll have to search them yourself (google).

You should install the latest version of Vmware Player Download VMware Player 4.0.3 - FileHippo.com
Skip this step if you already have it installed.

Windows XP (sp3 recommended with DX9c):
    - can get from 1024 to 2048 mb ram
    - leave the 3D acceleration enabled (it will use 128mb out of the 256mb on the host)

Didn't tested any AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 but with 256mb is just in the game's requirements and should work.
But XP will use 128mb in the VM so that's a minimum requirements range and there can be lags => but is better to test this first to know if you'll really need dualboot or not.

    Good Luck

Don't forget to install the VMware Tools after XP is installed.
This way it will improve performance with the accelerated (128mb) graphics adapter.

    That should do.

XP doesn't know the 8 bootloader, which is newer, and it will overwrite/delete it.
An XP installation always removes newer boot loaders, but a fix is possible to restore the Win 8 bootloader:

After the installation of XP you will boot with XP.
Reboot with the Win 8 DVD and go to advanced -> repair (startup repair) and it should fix the Win8 boot problem (the XP entry should be kept if i'm not mistaken).
I haven't tried it with Win 8. But this worked a while back in Vista and I think it will work on Win 8.

If you still have problems with the bootloaders after this try to add a missing bootloader with Easybcd: EasyBCD - Take control of your boot loader | NeoSmart Technologies

    Good luck
