I had uninstalled and reinstalled VMware and start from scratch. It is working fine now.
However, for future reference, in case it happens again.....
To anser your question :
When I clicked Play Virtual machine, it went to the startup window ( the fish ), but the white dots that were supposed to run in circle were frozen still. Nothing happened since.
Now that you said Suspend means Hibernation, is it possible that this happened because I was using CCleaner and I did not un-check the Hibernation files ? Hibernation files were deleted by CCleaner and therefore I could not open Win 8 ?

I don't think CCleaner would have caused this.
If it happens again, restart the computer and see if you may be able to play the VM afterwards.

I had restarted the laptop serveral times. Win 8 stiil froze at startup screen.
Anyway, the new install appears to be ok now....... I hope.

Oh, I had that exact same issue with VMware Workstation (paid version), and I was adviced to delete a folder in the VM folder. Can't remember what that folder was, but it worked great!

Well, it's solved now. But this "issue" is I think something we all have/had:
It's not really an issue (for all of us) it's just the default VMware Player's settings, right after install: all machines get suspended when you close them.
Here is a workaround that doesn't suspend anymore:
File -> Player Preferences
-set it to close VM instead of suspending.
Suspending will still, always happen if you add new hardware to a running VM but it's just temporary and needed then.
