Shutdown and turn off are two different things.

Connect to the vm using Hyper-V Virtual Machine Connection, click the black Turn Off button:

Click Turn Off, notice what the warning tells you (highlighted part):

Your vm should now turn off immediately.

Let's try if killing the task works. Do this:
    • Open Task Manager on host
    • Click the Details tab, search for vmwp.exe
    • Find the Process ID (PID) for virtual machine process:

    • Open elevated Command Prompt
    • Type following command and hit Enter (replace 1234 with the actual PID):

      Code:
      TASKKILL /PID 1234 /T /F
      • Explanation: Kill the process 1234 and all its child processes (/T), force killing if it refuses to kill normally (/F)

The vm should be terminated now. Report back how it went.

I killed first the stalled process, and in the manger status was/is off. Killed the second machines process then the turn off feature worked. then went to the settings on the vm selected hardware, don't have the remote fx feature.

Wow, this is a current thread... I just now started having a very similar issue. I can stop and start the VMs with no issue, but I am getting the same "Video remoting was disconnected unexpectedly" error.

An interesting thing to point out is the Event Log being inundated with Event ID's 36888 and 36874 when I try to connect to a VM in the Management Console. I have been toying around with this issue for more than 8 hours now. I previously had VMware Workstation on this computer as well, and I found out there was a compatibility issue. I removed VMware, but still no go. I reformatted the PC, enabled Hyper-V, created two VMs, and everything seemed fine... until about 20 minutes ago. Getting the "Video remoting was disconnected unexpectedly" again! Ugh!!!

Geeks, I have no answer at the moment. I was sure the RemoteFX stuff was the answer.

I will do some testing and check-ups, will post later.

MotoCrazy, I'll have to go back and check the logs again, earlier (last few days) they've been error free. Kari, many thanks it's very appreciated. I'll have some coffee and continue digging too. If you were here and it's a few hours later, I'd get you a dram or two, or three....
