I have problems with the new version of guest additions.
1. It doesn't allow me to uncheck 3D support which I had to do with the previous version because of a hang.
2. If I install with 3D support it hangs just prior to the logon screen with high CPU and a flashing display and yes 3D is properly configured in settings with 256MB video RAM.

I'm gonna install the new VBox today.
Up untill now I always kept the 3D support checked (error when I installed the basic 3d addons)
I could install only the additions without 3d support and the WDDM 3d support (which crashed with most apps)
I thought that aero needed 3D support even if you used the standard graphics driver from the os and that's why I kept it checked.
The standard graphics driver is I think the most stable one on VBox at the moment (if we talk about 3D checked).
- Install the additions with 3D support WDDM (256mb)
- restart go to Device Manager -> manually uninstall the VBox WDDM graphics driver
=> you will still have additions (like copy paste, shared folders) with the standard display driver (without the screen stretching: use built in resolutions or add custom ones).
Thanks for that Hopachi. It worked for me too. Maybe by the next release Oracle will get their act together on WDDM. VMware Player seems to have no problems with it.

The video drivers are barfed for me, too - I did manage to get it sorta working at one point, but the resolution was changing every 10 seconds, and the cursor appeared in a random position somewhere different to where the mouse was actually pointing (if you see what I mean!)
I gave up in the end - back to no VM additions for me.
Use the method described by Hopachi above of installing guest additions, don't reboot, and then uninstalling the WDDM driver.
You can then set a resolution to fit your monitor by editing the VBOX file in Notepad++. Locate the ExtraData section and add the top line in the example below. You will need to change it to fit your monitor WidthxHeightxColor Depth. You will then have that selection when you right click on the desktop and select screen resolution. This will then give you a full scree display which fits your monitor. There is an official way of doing this with VBoxManage but this is simpler.

Ah - OK, that works for me - and I can still use scale mode to get the full screen in view without having to hack the VBOX file (but I'll have a go with that later ) - host resolution is 1366/768.

It doesn't matter too much if it does, with what I use it for - messing around with the system trying to find ways to bork and repair the Licensing
If it stalls a little, then things will go a little slower - if it freezes, I'll just swap to normal view and bring back a snapshot.
Rinse and repeat .
