As my machine doesn't support SLAT in HyperV I am using VMlite XP mode to run some 16 bit programs I need. Very occaisionally VMlite hangs on close after it has saved state or shutdown the guest machine.

I go to task manager and click end task on the Workstation GUI and it closes but very occaisionally end task wont closed the program. Sign off wont close the program either and restarting hangs at the blue screen 'restarting' I have to push the reset button on the tower to get the machine to restart.

Is there any hidden way of closing VMlite so I dont have to restart, a sort of hard end task?

Tim

Hi there
I believe vmlite XP mode is non Ms official software - XPmode is licensed and distributed solely by Ms. Anybody else who incorporates this product into their offerings whether freeware or not runs the risk of serious copyright infringements.

For 16 bit software you could try using a win95 VM - works fine !!!(use FREE VBOX or VMWARE player to create the VM).
I'm not sure but a W98 VM might work too -- there's a generic key on the web and plenty of ISO's --this is now abandonware so the generic keys are legit.

Cheers

Hello,

VMLite uses VirtualBox as its base.

Use VirtualBox directly, create new VM and assign the disk to it. Version 4.3.12 seems pretty stable at the moment.

You can also try a VMware Player VM.

XP Mode was designed for MS Virtual PC on Win7. Other VM products and host OSes are NOT officially supported by XP Mode. Try it at own risk.

You can also try a normal XP VM. Dosbox can also run 16bit software but if you have issues, give a good XP / 98 / WinME VM a try.
