I can't run this computer in Hyper-V because the Hyper-V platform is grayed out? This is a snip from the computer and it says I can run in VT-x so why is that?

The reason is simple: Hyper-V 3.0 requires SLAT - a feature, that only the newest processors supports (AMD from K10 onward, Intel iCore i5/i7). I've addressed it a few months ago in [1] (unfortunately in German). It's a penality user has to pay due of a design decision Microsoft made in the past.

Use Virtualbox, they implemented their virtualization engine in a different way, so VT-x is sufficient.

this is not the problem , if you look at the 2 CPUs the op list in his spec, they support Hyper-V, the problem is Lostsoul62 forget to enable SVM ( for AMD) or VT ( for Intel ) in the BIOS, just go in the CPU section of the BIOS it's there.

Lostsoul62, If you have problem to find it in the BIOS, give me the model of motherboard and I will help you

Huh, maybe your right - but obviously I'm a bit blind. First I overlooked his processor feature table.

But after a closer look - where did you read about the 2 CPUs ?

2nd question: which of the specs listed in the table above is the abbreviation for EPT?

I won't blame you, just intend to understand the clue, you obtained from the OP post.

BTW, the link [1] shows a way to test, whether the CPU supports EPT - maybe it helps - and Alex Verboon shows a test for Hyper-V capability in [2].

I'm not sure I understand, if you means where I see the 2 CPU of the OP , it's in his spec

CPU AMD 955 & Intel E6550

now if you ask me where I read about if those CPU work with Hyper-V, well, I don't need to read, I use already Hyper-V on those CPU, and it work fine, as I said the OP just have to enable the thing I mention in the BIOS and Hyper-V will not be grey anymore.
