Thanks to some great help on this forum, I now have an Internet connection with my XP. The last challenge is USB. Not sure if I am missing something, but I do not see it in the Setup.

Any help is appreciated...

Todd

P.S. I started this new thread though I did mention USB in my last.

What's the actual issue you're having?

When I plug in a USB, it is recognized by the Windows 8, but not by Hyper-V and the XP machine [I hope I am using the correct terminology since virtual machines is new].

In doing some research, it appears that using Remote Access is the answer. I'll check that out when I have some time...thought I'd save all of you some time so you will not not just duplicate that.

And again, thank you...

Yes, all of the help that was generously shared with me about setting up remote access WORKS! Many thanks to all! And remember, if you visit Bend, OR, I would enjoy introducing you to Bend's 15 breweries.

Now I have another question that I will post on a new thread: cloning a XP system via Acronis.

Hate to necro a thread, but I figured it was better than opening a new one. Could someone throw me a link to how this process works or should work?

I want (and will need) to be able to access a USB stick from my Windows XP\7\8 VM to authenicate with a VPN service. I'm not seeing how I can access that device from the VM itself. So it's a windows 8.1.1 Hyper-V, with say a XP guest VM. Under windows 7 this is easy, just not seeing it under Windows 8.1

Looking at another thread it *seems* that I have to connect to my VM from a remote desktop session? Is the correct and namely is that the only option? If it is I have a large problem. The VPN software doesn't allow connection from a remote desktop session.

Thank you
Dale
