    Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 SP1 Graphics & Windows 8

    Hello,

First time poster, so sorry if this is in the wrong thread. I just bought a new Samsung Ativ Book 8 and upgraded to Windows 8.1. I'm into a lot of things requiring older operating systems like Windows 98, and the best VM to handle these older OS is VPC 2007 SP1. I have gone through and applied the proper x64 installations and patches to make the program work with Windows 8 and that goes quite smoothly. The only thing I don't like is that I can't set the VM resolution to my host resolution, 1920X1080. I did some research and apparently Microsoft released a fix, KB958162, which, among other things, allows higher resolutions up to 2048x1920.

Here's where issues start happening. I download the proper x64 fix, run installation no problems. When I go to run the program, it now comes up with a dialogue saying no network adapter was found on the physical computer, yet the internet works fine on the host, just not in the VM. Also, I am still unable to set the VM resolution to 1920X1080, the highest it will go is 1600X1200. Obviously the patch is either not working or I've done something wrong somewhere. I've uninstalled multiple times, restarted, etc. with no luck either.

Can someone suggest how to maybe get these issues resolved? I'm mainly worried about the resolution. Even if I had to go in and somehow modify the driver to allow for the proper setting I could probably do that if you gave me easy instructions.

    Thanks!

So after a little digging, I discovered another program, VMware, which greatly supports Windows 9X products. It runs very smooth and even adjusts resolution on the fly, so when I go to full screen mode, it automatically adjusts the guest resolution to my computer's native resolution. Perfect.

    Hi there.

Don't forget that after installing your Guest OS you should install VMware tools (from WITHIN the guest) after the first boot. The install VMware tools will be on the vm menu. This will install the appropriate video, audio and mouse drivers to give the VM a much better operation including video resolutions that weren't even available when for example Win98 was launched (1920 X 1080) etc.

    Cheers
