Solved How To Get Windows Virtual PC?

Hello I need to test and run some old Windows XP Programs So I have decided to Use Windows Virtual PC With Windows XP Mode. But I can't get any link to download these two things.

So can anyone give me the link for The Windows Virtual PC and The Windows XP Mode?
Also Tell me how to install it?

Just use Hyper-V that's native to windows 8, it's all ready installed you just have to enable it. Then once that is done, you'll have to set up a virtual machine in Hyper-V.

Hyper-V is far more powerful. It's Microsoft's server based virtualization product.

Since you are on 7 Home Premium, you are not entitled to the free license of XP anyway. You have to be on Windows 7 Pro or higher to be eligible.

I'd check out

• vmware player (free)
• Oracle Virtualbox (free)

It's worth trying.

Hyper-V is more advanced and you'll probably have problems with in in begin.
To nicely migrate from Virtual PC, for home usage, go with VirtualBox or VMware Player first. Those run on Win7 HP and you can use all your previous VM's from Virtual PC with them.

I still find it difficult to get some OSes running in Hyper-V with a bigger resolution shown and to constantly log in with remote desktop whenever I need sound in the VM, but that's just me. That's not because it's a bad program, on the contrary, it's just that I'm used with Virtual PC, VirtualBox and VMware as their interfaces and usage steps resemble each other.

On Win7 you can still use MS Virtual PC 2007 SP1 from what I've seen.
It's suitable for 32bit VM's and XP is supported.

If the CPU supports hardware virtualization then you can even use 64bit VM's by using Hyper-V (Win8 PRO), VirtualBox and VMware Player, all free.

If I'm on win8 pro does that mean I can use a virtual Xp for free? That would be very handy!

Windows XP Mode cannot be used with Windows 8, whether it is Windows 8 Core, Windows 8 Pro, or Windows 8 Enterprise.
Windows XP Mode is only released for Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, and Windows 7 Enterprise.

Well, you can run Hyper-V for free. But you don't get a free license to run XP under Hyper-V for free like you did with 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate. You would have to provide your own key for XP in order to run it under Windows 8.

I also recommend to start with e.g. VMware Player. Runs really nice. Here is one of Shawns excellent tutorials for setting it up: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2899-vmware-player-install-windows-8-a.html

This tutorial is not only for setting up Windows 8. You can setup any system with it. The difference is only in the setup of the VMware Tools (optional). I have setup a few Linux distros that way and they work perfectly. These VM are time limited, but Microsoft replace the VMs with new versions, I presume as long as Microsoft still supports XP. You do not have to provide keys for these VMs.

We have started the Easter holiday a week early due to Floods/Snow/abandoned vehicles due to high fuel costs etc. Travel in the UK at your peril! It never ceases to amaze that a centimetre or two of snow can bring this country to a standstill!

We have had significant snowfall almost every year down to the south of England ever since 2007, just a few years after David Viner of the MetOffice pronounced that snowfalls in Britain were a thing of the past, and our children would not know what snow is. (the 2007 snow rather fulfilled that prophesy as many of the UK snow "sculptures" were phallic (made by older youths who had missed out on childhood snow), instead of the more traditional snowmen.)

Our main problem is still that our motorists do not know how to drive in icy conditions, and have not the sense to avoid or delay travelling in bad conditions. Once a road is littered with abandoned vehicles, any snow clearing vehicles just cannot get through.

Still, once you are in London, the snow does not hang around for long. Enjoy your visit.
