I'm at the point of no return with Hyper V. I have finally gotten access to the Internet. For the next step, can someone point out where I can find Step-by-Step instructions to gain access to a Host Hard Drive from the VM. I have the MS Windows 8 Inside Out and it is of no help. For some reason accessing a Hard Drive wasn't important.
1) enable the HOST computers drives as SHAREABLE and ensure Network visibility is on in Networking.
2) ensure your VM user has permission to access the host drive(s) either via a password or not --your choice.
3) in the VM use File explorer and select Mount Network drive.
4) Browse the network map -- if for some reason the HOST computer can't be seen get the IP address of the HOST and then set the mount address as say \\192.168.0.3\Windows_D or whatever you've shared the drive as.
You might have to change the networking method of the VM -- but in NAT mode ( I think that's default for HYPER-V) you should be OK.
Try also enabling sharing on the VM's drives and see if you can ping / view from the HOST as well. Enter a DOS command IPCONFIG to get the IP addresses of Host and VM. You should be able to PING both ways.
The VM is simply regarded as another machine on your network -- just use "bog standard networking" even if you only have ONE machine and the VM on your network.
