Windows 8 runs off VMWare but can't physically boot it

    Hi guy

I'm very confused I basically can't get windows 8 to boot past the blue window logo whether I boot straight off DVD or upgrade and reboot to complete installation. However I run and install and use it perfectly off VMWare allocating only 512mb ram from my total 1gb. Surely if it runs on virtual that means my hardware does support it so it's not a hardware problem that I can boot win 8??

    What do you guys think

You cannot use virtualization software to test bare metal compatibility. Does your system meet the hardware requirements for Windows 8?

Hi thanks for the reply. Yes the only requirement that it does not meet is secure boot

I don't understand the problem exactly. It boots and installs, then how are you stuck at a logo? Is it the same pc?
I don't think we need to complicate things with something like bare-metal, this is VMware Player or Workstation right?

If you fixed the problem, ignore this post.

    Thank you.

Basically If I boot from win8 DVD I get stuck at the splash screen with the logo and the animation dots. If I upgrade, after the install and the first reboot takes place i get stuck at the splash screen Aswel.

However I can install win8 on a virtual machine using the same ISO with no trouble, this is using VMWare workstation and player. This makes me think there is no ISO related issues ie corrupted or incompletely downloaded/burnt.

Ok, so installing as a virtual machine is working, but the problem is a native install/boot. There is something wrong but don't know what.
    The dvd-drive itself maybe?

You get stuck a the load screen. Does it happen even if you try to clean-install it?

I suggest you extract the ISO disk to a USB stick and boot with that. A Win8 Install from USB-2.0 is faster than the DVD usually.
Th ISO can be extracted with 7-Zip and works on a clean partition on USB. If you need to be sure it boots, you can use another tool, have a look here:
Create Bootable USB or DVD with Windows 8 ISO

To use it insert the USB stick, reboot the pc, go to the boot menu (you probably need to look in the BIOS) and select the inserted USB fro the list. The procedure is the same as fro the DVD but faster. See if it works now.

    Good luck installing.

I will start the compatibility check first, just start it until it finish the compatibility , take note of problem it can found and fix it.

Upgrade to Windows 8 - Microsoft Windows

No not at all, the hypervisor create a new hardware and BIOS, this is why you can transfer WM from one PC to another one ( all true you have some other thing to make sure, but it's off topic)

Thank you for clarifying that for me

I have run the compatibility check and the only problems I have are

    - not compatible with secure boot
    - not compatible resolution for snap app

Please refer to my main topic titled "windows 8 hangs/freezes splash screen" that has all my problems and specs listed with a few others suffering the same problem! Thanks for the reply guys

I will now mark this topic as solved.

Have you tried booting from a USB stick? (see my previous post above).

The DVD drive itself can be the issue (or not) but you need to make sure with a different install medium.

I am going to try with a USB stick tonight and see if it works!

I don't think it is an issue with my drive as I have clean installed windows 7 about 5 times from dvd in the past 3 days :|.

Please read my main thread too thanks for your replies
