No boot from guest OS - XP

I attempted to create a data drive on the guest OS. I do not know if that is possible but I tried. As a result the guest os became non-bootable. What I am seeing is the following. How can I repair this?

Let's start from the top. How did you try to create the data drive?

I did not put down in memo exact steps but it was something as follows:

Settings --> SCSI Controller --> New --> put dot for VHD --> put dot for Fixed size --> New - typed in name --> pointed location --> set vertial disk size to 32GB. --> Finish

Okay, and for adding the VHD to the VM, you went into Settings -> IDE Controller 0 -> highlight hard drive and click add -> selected appropriate settings from the drop down menus, chose VHD file -> apply?

It is my practice to set up a system drive and a data drive(s) separately. I wanted to do the same thing within the XP VM.

There was a drive whose name is D: and was a CD-DVD drive. I changed D: to Q: and then I thought I create a data drive which I was planning to name as D:.

Now about your question: About "for adding the VHD to the VM" , I assume that's what I was trying to do but not sure.
Instead of IDE Controller 0, I high lighted SCSI Controller --> High lighted HARD Drive --> Add --> Dot mark on Virtual hard disk --> New and the rests are the same as my previous post.

If it is easier for you to post how to do it, then please do so, I will start from scratch.

I'm not sure, but the problem may have been in changing the drive letter of the CD drive. If you generally configure machines with two drives, perhaps you'd be better off creating two VHD files before you create the VM, and during the VM creation process, add both of the drives you previously created.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will review the tutorial and try to figure out exactly how to do it as suggested.

I am still having difficulty adding a hard drive to the guest OS. The following a snap shot of Settings for the guest OS. Note that the added hdd is shown under SCSI Controller. But it does not show on Windows Explorer nor Disk Management.

I tried adding the hdd to IDE and found it work. I wonder why not to SCSI.
