Locked out of Windows 8.1 user due to Microsoft Account.

    Hello,

Please help, I have spent all day trying to fix my windows 8.1 Laptop.

    My system:

    Windows 8.1 Dell XPS 13 9343 I7 with TPM

A family member used my laptop for Skype which required them to create a windows account. They just put jibberish into the account and all was fine and they used skype. When I went to use my laptop this morning my account was locked by this account.

I have spent hours trying to get access to the account and talking to Microsoft technical support. They finally suggested reinstalling windows 8.1 and recovering my files from Windows.old. However I cannot install windows as my files are protected by bitlocker. And i cannot switch off bitlocker as I dont have admin rights as my admin account is locked. Is this impossible to rectify. Please help if possible as this is really distressing me.

    Thank you

One another computer you're going to need to create a Puppy Linux usb boot or a dvd boot, boot it, copy off all your data folders and files onto an external media you trust -- I just remembered you have active-bitlocker, I hope you can "aim" the bitlocker function at the external media someday and not only unlock your data stuff but also be able to copy data stuff "underneath" your ReInstalled Windows. I think only after a hard-drive "scorched-earth DBAN," will you be able to ReInstall your Windows -- use the same computer name, the same user account name, the same user account password during this reconstruction; reconstructing your Windows to where it was before this Skype/Microsoft account situation happened. Sorry this post looks like Merlin's life going backwards -- I'm trying, on the fly, to think of any possible doable solution set.

    Thanks for the replies.

RolandJS, I am quite computer literate but I dont really understand most of what you said unfortunately. I did think about installing dual boot Ubuntu and trying to access my files, but then would it restrict my access to my files due to bitlocker?

Samuria, the account is locked by a microsoft account on top of my local user account. For some reason when the microsoft account was created it superseded my local account and now I dont even have the option to use my local password to get in.

Are my options very limited here?

My old account is not visible anymore in the login. When I log into another non admin account I can see my account details in my computer, however when I click on the folder it asks for this microsoft account password, and not my original user account password which I created. Is that what you wanted clarified? It is like this microsoft account has taken over my local windows account and I cannot get rid of it.

Does the folder for the old account show up under users and are there any files in it?
Can you choose runas for any files and use the account
can you switch user to it
Press the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys. From here you can select to Lock, Switch user, Sign out (Log off), or you could click/tap on the power button at the bottom right corner to select to Sleep, Hibernate, Shut down or Restart. 1. While on the Desktop (Windows+D), press the ALT+F4 keys.

Looks like the MS account INTEGRATED with your old Admin account. I might have a similar case here on a relatives machine:

Can you see and point out/ list out the names of the folders inside the Users folder:
e.g. This is from my machine, but personal name is cleansed
    MyUserName1
    Administrator
    All Users
    UserName2
    Default
    DefaultAppPool
    Public
    etc.

The folder for the old account is visible from the non admin account. When I click on the folder to open it I get blocked by the "Admin password required which specifically asks for the microsoft password and not my user password.

Xbliss, as this happened to a relatives computer too, is there a workaround? You got it exactly right, the microsoft account has integrated into my local account. Microsoft support wont help me and keep diverting me to password recovery, which is impossible as nothing in the account is valid or can be remembered. So i'm in a catch 22. And I believe microsoft wont just delete an account without some proof of ownership etc.

Samuria, the account is visible from the initial login screen. I can only view the folder when logged into another non admin account, but cannot get past the admin password screen.
