    Activation of hidden admid account

So I have the password to the hidden admin account, but no other accounts with admin privileges and I don't know how to log in with this password. I also have an older liveboot Ubuntu minipen that can access anything you feel like should you need.

Would any of you be so kind as to tell me a way I can log in as the admin account without being on an admin account? Alternatively it would be just as good to upgrade an account with admin privileges without somehow having admin privileges beforehand. I should have no problem making registry changes and file changes from my linux side, but I'd like to do this is genitally as possible and that's about as heavy handed as you can get. (also it's probably not a good idea to publish a guide for how to do that online.)

Thanks for any help! One more thing... Dear lord how do you people get by with Windows? There's so many security holes and flaws I'm really worried I will shatter it by just looking at it. It's far harder to just keep from breaking the thing than it is to crack into anything I feel like.

Hello Bobbing4Windows, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If the hidden built-in Administrator account is enabled, then you should be able to just select it to sign in to it at startup.

Otherwise, you could enable it at boot using OPTION TWO below first.

The Registry Editor just throws a bunch of errors because I'm not allowed to open the config file or open the SAM hive without an admin account, but that's fine. I think I can do it from here using some tricks that I'm not going to say here. Why can I even open the Registry Editor?

Did you do this in a command prompt at boot, and not in Windows?

Oh! I didn't! Silly me. If I have time, I might try this out tomorrow for the fun of it to see if it works that way. Thanks!
