Wrong email Address Entered During Account Setup

Seting up my Windows Account on a new Windows 8.1 PC I entered an incorrect email address. Towards the end of the setup I was told to check my emails for the code needed to complete the setup process. Clearly I can't find the code because I gave an incorrect email address. So my Microsoft account is in limbo and I can't use it. The computer and Windows 8.1 work fine but I can't use my Windows Account. I've tried a number of things to sort this out without success. Please help.

Hello bdlittlewood, and welcome to Eight Forums.

See if you may be able to switch your account to a local account first, then switch it back to a Microsoft account using the correct address to fix this.

Thanks. Tried that. Local account get's me into Windows but all attempts to proceed with the primary account fail because I can't get at the code that Microsoft sent to the wrongly defined email address. There must be a way to solve otherwise this would be happening all the time with keyboard errors like mine.

You might see if you may be able to change your primary alias to the correct address online at Microsoft instead.

Thanks again Brink. I'm away from the PC at the moment but will try as soon as I'm back. I'll let you know.

    That didn't work.

Despite Brink's advice I'm no further forward. To recap briefly, in my initial attempt to set up a new Microsoft Account on a new Windows 8.1 PC I entered an incorrect email address in my user profile - my error, shouldn't have done it, now I'm suffering!. As a result, Microsoft haven't been able to provide me with the necessary security code; they keep sending it but it always goes to the incorrect email address that I quoted and as a result I can't access it. Please can someone tell me how to recover from this.

In that case, try creating a new Microsoft account on your PC with the correct address, make it an administrator account, sign in to the new account, then delete the old incorrect account when you like.

Thanks for the advice Brink. I've tried to start from scratch and create a new account but haven't been able to do so without having an accredited account in the first place - I'm told every time that before I can go any further I need to "verify my account", which I can't do for the reason I've given.

From the position I'm in, if it ispossible to create a completely new account, please can you tell me exactly how to do this?

    Many thanks,

    Brian

In that case, I'd just reset Windows 8.1 and start over to be able to enter the correct email address during setup.

Thanks Brink. Did that. The PC reset after quite a long time and I'm now here on the Start screen and Windows looks fine. What next? I still seem to be logged on with both my original emails and I'm afraid to change anything at this stage, even if I thought I could work out what to do. Help please.
