Solved Wrong email Address Entered During Account Setup

Seting up my Windows Account on a new Windows 8.1 PC I entered an incorrect email address. Towards the end of the setup I was told to check my emails for the code needed to complete the setup process. Clearly I can't find the code because I gave an incorrect email address. So my Microsoft account is in limbo and I can't use it. The computer and Windows 8.1 work fine but I can't use my Windows Account. I've tried a number of things to sort this out without success. Please help.

Thanks. Tried that. Local account get's me into Windows but all attempts to proceed with the primary account fail because I can't get at the code that Microsoft sent to the wrongly defined email address. There must be a way to solve otherwise this would be happening all the time with keyboard errors like mine.

That didn't work.

Despite Brink's advice I'm no further forward. To recap briefly, in my initial attempt to set up a new Microsoft Account on a new Windows 8.1 PC I entered an incorrect email address in my user profile - my error, shouldn't have done it, now I'm suffering!. As a result, Microsoft haven't been able to provide me with the necessary security code; they keep sending it but it always goes to the incorrect email address that I quoted and as a result I can't access it. Please can someone tell me how to recover from this.

Thanks for the advice Brink. I've tried to start from scratch and create a new account but haven't been able to do so without having an accredited account in the first place - I'm told every time that before I can go any further I need to "verify my account", which I can't do for the reason I've given.

From the position I'm in, if it ispossible to create a completely new account, please can you tell me exactly how to do this?

Many thanks,

Brian

Thanks Brink. Did that. The PC reset after quite a long time and I'm now here on the Start screen and Windows looks fine. What next? I still seem to be logged on with both my original emails and I'm afraid to change anything at this stage, even if I thought I could work out what to do. Help please.

It sounds like you may have done a refresh instead of reset. A reset would have deleted everything.

When you check your aliases online at Microsoft below for you Microsoft account, does it only have the correct address listed, and has it as the primary alias?

It was indeed a refresh. I remember only being offered that one option. Perhaps I need to do it again and look more carefully for the reset option.

And by the way, to answer your question, after the reset there is only one alias - the wrong email address listed as my primary. Looks as though a reset is needed. I'll not do that tonight it's getting late. If there's anything else I should know please tell me. If I don't hear anything by tomorrow I'll give it a go then. Thanks.

Ok good for only one alias. That means it wasn't combined with the correct one, and you should be able to create a new Microsoft account with the correct address during Windows Setup while doing a reset. :)

Brink's advice was fine. I just reset the PC and then went through the setup sequence again. Worked perfectly. Wish I'd been more careful first time round. Many thanks Brink.
