Hello,
Problem: since today I'm no longer able to login into Windows 8.1 on any acccount : as soon as I click (or hit Enter) on one of the two account avatars (one is administrator, the other is standard), the screen very shortly blacks out then immediately returns to the login page displaying the avatar icons (the disk activity led shows doesn't flicker during that process).
In other words, I'm stuck looping on the login screen, no account gets selected and I'm not proposed to type in the password ! How can I get out of this loop ?
The icons at the bottom of the login screen are however functional (easy access, change language/keyboard, shutdown/restart)
The PC is a dual boot system and I can boot on the Windows 7 partition and physically access the Windows 8.1 partition if some file has to be edited, some flag triggered or its registry tweaked...
Thanks for your suggestions !
PS: There is a context to this situation. My PC is suffering since a couple of days from massive atapi errors (several thousands events per hour now). Before throwing the PC away, I'd at least try to re-install supposedly corrupt Intel CH7 Familly Chipset drivers to correct this, namely via Intel's Driver Update Utility which wasn't very helpful so far. The last thing I was doing was running an SFC /SCANNOW which identified several files that could not be restored (due to corrupt source file, which I tried to restore with a DMSI command). After reboot, I got the login loop screen... looks like an down-spiralling mess :-(
Update: after two reboots (and some sleep), I was finally offered again to log into my main admin account. However the login doesn't remember any of my settings: the session is announced as being a temporary profile despite I'm using my Live credentials, it doesn't recognise my language nor keyboard layout (reset to US, guess the nightmare), etc...
