How to disable a Windows account from a PC

I have tried to google this many different ways with no results. I need to return a defective computer but I need to unlink it from my Windows account. I have tried to create a local account, but it won't go through. Other options ask for an internet connection, but I can't connect to the internet. That's why I'm returning the PC in the first place. How do I unlink it without deleting the account (I'm using it right now on a different PC)?

PC Settings>Accounts>Your Account>Disconnect to "unlink it" as you say.

I have tried that several times. The only option it gives me is creating a local account, but I always end up with an error message at the end saying that the Microsoft account wasn't changed to a local account.

In settings, go to recovery and choose Reinstall windows then EVERYTHING will be set back to the way it was when you bought it, no account no programs no personal info.
