Login password - not locked out but it's lurking

I have W8.1 and have the login password turned off but I know there's a login password lurking on the system because I set it and don't have it written down. Is there a way to "uncover" what the password is?
Again, I'm NOT locked out ..... I just don't want that password to stay unknown.

    Thx

Hello Flavioguy, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Is this for a local account or a Microsoft account?

It's at the windows login screen so I would say local.

    That could be either.

Local account = like Windows 7

Microsoft account = uses an email address

If I try to change the password to "blank", I'm asked for an existing password. Hopefully that makes sense. I find the whole Windows/Microsoft password system quite confusing.

So to, I believe answer your question, No....this is solely a password. NO email address.

If it's a Microsoft account, you would see an email address under the user name in Control Panel -> User accounts.

If it's a local account and you have another administrator account, then you could sign in to it, and change the password for the other account that you forgot the password of.

    Great news.

If you changed the password, then just a reminder that you will also need to go into netplwiz to redo setting up Windows to automatically sign in to that account with the new password.

Thx. I wondered about that....thing is when I go into the netplwiz, at the bottom of the box where it says "password for *****.yahoo.com" To change your password, go to PC settings and select users - the Reset Password button is greyed out. Make any sense!

Since that is an email address, this would be a Microsoft account instead of a local account.

You would use step 4 in OPTION ONE below to change the password in netplwiz to the new password for what will be used to automatically sign in with.

Log On User Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup

Do note, that this will not change the actual password of the Microsoft account. To do that, you would need to use an option in the tutorial below instead. Afterwards do the above to update the password for netplwiz.
