    Microsoft account problem

I purchased a laptop for the wife @ Christmas. I installed a couple of games from the app store using my Microsoft account. Now when she turns on the laptop it shows my Microsoft account & asks for my password. After installing the game apps, the screen showed it was converting the account to the Microsoft account. I thought I cancelled this out, but apparently not. How can I get her laptop back to the way it was prior to installing those game apps?

    Hello Bnewt,

Was your wife's account originally a local account?

If so, it sounds like you switched her account to be a Microsoft account, and used your MS account email address.

To fix this, you could switch her account to be a local account again.

Local Account - Switch to in Windows 8

If you would like for her to be able to use apps, then you could sign in to the Store with your Microsoft account using step 6 in the tutorial below. This way, she will still sign in to Windows with her local account, but the apps will use your Microsoft account to be able to use the game apps you purchased with your account.

Windows Store - Sign in with Different Microsoft Account in Windows 8

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

not really sure what a local account is

she turned on the laptop, her name appeared in the top right corner, along with the start screen, she clicked on the desktop icon & then she was able to do what she pleased..........never had to enter her name or password of any kind

noticed in the guide, that she would have to be signed on as administrator.........how would she do this?

Her account should already be an administrator account if it was setup with it.

In Windows 8/8.1, there are two types of accounts that you can have to sign in to Windows with.

Local account - like in Windows 7

Microsoft account - uses an email address

If she still sees her name at sign in, then her account was not switched to your Microsoft account. In this case, she could use the tutorial below to set Windows to automatically sign in to her account at startup to not have to enter her password anymore.

Log On User Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup

If she is having to actually type in both her user name and password at sign in instead of just her password, then see the tutorial below to turn this off to see if that's it.

Sign in with User Name and Password in Windows 8

during this process of switching, can the password just be left blank?
what would happen if I deleted the Microsoft account........wouldn't that bring things back to they when she 1st got the laptop?

Is she still signing in to her account on the sign in screen? If so, then it doesn't sound like you switched her account in Windows to a Microsoft account with your email address.

If it's a local account, then you could leave the password blank if you like. It just means that anyone with access to the computer will be able to easily access her account.

Deleting any account on the computer would remove it completely on the computer. I would recommend to not delete the account for now to avoid losing anything by mistake.
