    User account file encryption certificate


    Encryption problem - Please help


    hello first
    I encrypted some files using windows standard encryption it was good
    and I saved the certificates for it done!
    then I wanted to encrypt another file done but windows didn't ask me to save a key
    or certificate this began to happen all time
    I dont want to lose these files so I decided to decrypt them however it didnt work
    installing the certificate wont work to
    I changed user name and passwords a time ago is it associated to certificates ?
    tip;I have more than a user names (8.1) (Matrix)
    some times the owner is Matrix
    sometimes is 8.1 what to do?
    now all files wont open ?

    Hey Gamer,

    If you are using EFS to encrypt the files, then all encrypted files will use the same certificate unless changed by you. If you change your user account's password from another account or at boot, then you would loose access to all your existing encrypted files.

    Here's a couple of things you could try to regain access to your EFS encrypted files.

    1) If you add a encrypted file to a zipped folder, the file will be unencrypted (decrypted) when extracted from the ZIP file.

    2) You could try the 30 day free trial program Advanced EFS Data Recovery to decrypt the files.

    yes I am using EFS
    Do I need to rename to old name and get the old password to my account to gain access to data again?
    some of these files I encrypted them with microsoft account
    some with local account

    but I cant decrypt them Access is Denied

    Sorry, but renaming the account or changing the password back will not help. Once done, access is lost for good.

    You might see if the two options I posted may be able to help gain access again.
