Hi
Win 8.1
Switch to a Microsoft account on this PC
The password you entered is incorrect. Try again.

Can make the password visible, it is correct. Running no version of webroot. Restore the computer to a time when the password worked, it never has even though it is correct for signing into my account on the micro website. Changed my password and still no success.
Any help appreciated.

Cheers

After some searching I googled if it was possible to sign my PC into a microsoft account from Holland and got no clear answer ( I just noticed there is a little badge by my post so you can see where I am from). I ran the account diagnostic and it wanted to configure my LAN, my internet is working fine and I dont want to mess it up by making changes if possible. I hate troubleshooting connection problems :) The report said proxy settings were not fixed and root causes were detected, but the issues found were not present.

Cheerio

BTW this is no urgent problem, I just couldn't sign onto xbox with my PC and wondered what the problem could be.

I don't think the country you are in is the problem because I am in USA and getting same message about wrong password. I have changed the password 3 times trying to fix this and cleared the store cash as was recommended in this forum, also tried re-registering account but nothing has worked. I login to Microsoft Account but can't sign into my store account.
Hope someone here knows how to fix this.

For those who are searching. Ok I finally found out what the problem was and I cant for the life of me understand why something so simple isnt fixed. When you go to fill in the microsoft signin information the password that has to be entered is the password you used to signin to your computer. For as long as I have had computers I have always used a login password. So it isnt the microsoft password you need but the password for your personal user account. Nowhere is this indicated and for people specialized in designing and implimenting user interfaces this is a totally weird oversight.

Signin using your last personal login password.
You will be prompted to enter your email address again, twice.
You will receive a code via email.
Enter the code and you will be prompted to enter your microsoft password, which you can get from their website.

That's it.
Cheers

Hi there. Not understanding the problem. The password for your device user account doesn't have to match your MS account sigin, yes? e.g. One could have a tower PC, tablet, and a phone that all have different signin passwords for each device that doesn't necessarily have to match one's MS account signin. For convenience I use my MS account signin so that no matter where I go it signs me in automatically (such as Xbox), although signing into my main MS account where it'll have my user name saved, but requests my password for security reasons.

I couldn't sign in to my microsoft account on my pc even with the correct email and microsoft password. When I did I got an error. I had to start the sign in sequence with the password of the (private) user account I was already signed in to. There is no information anywhere during the sign in process that alerts you to this and I got lucky with google and found the solution by chance. Which is strange.

Thanks for that. So you're saying from within a local account one has to go through this process. I know this has always been true for using the Store.

No worries. Yeah folks like me are not used to the process and need just a small note which could save a lot of time.

Cheers
