Solved Microsoft account on new laptop.....I screwed up

While configuring my wife's new laptop I entered an incorrect email and password for her Microsoft account. How do I change, delete or otherwise install the correct email address for her Microsoft account. I suppose I can just reformat the laptop HD to pre configure state since the laptop is a day old with not much on it yet. Is there a way do do this before I resort to a re-install? Thanks for the help.

No, just create a brand new account and sign in with it. Does not cost anything ;)

Hi Jon, welcome to the Eight Forums. First: don't panic, get a beer and relax; we'll fix this.

If you gave a wrong password for a Microsoft account when initially setting up the PC and its first user, it should tell you about it and ask password again.

Could you please tell at what phase of setup you are now, what screen you seeing, what dialog is showing, any messages on screen?

In addition, You don't really have to use any Microsoft Account while setting up. At the point where it asks you to sign in with a MS account, click on create new account then select use Local account. I always do this to set up my PC then sign in when I am done setting up.

The laptop is essentially set up and working. No issues at all other than while originally configuring the computer I mistakenly entered an incorrect email address for setting up her Microsoft account. Add to that I forgot her new password as well so what I really need to do is establish a new correct email account as well as a new password. The OS is working fine and I can access the internet, programs, etc.. The only issue is the MS account and changing the invalid email address to a correct one.

Also, how do I get to the above page? I'm on my desktop right now and it's using W7. I have the laptop next to me so it is available.

I hate to say it but none of the pages shown above match visuals of my version of W8. I'm not familiar with 8 so bear with me. I wonder if the panels shown above are in W8.1? My version is 8.0. In control panel I have a "User account and family safety" listing. The only two items I have under User accounts is Manage accounts and it contains the admin and guest accounts. The guest account is off. The Admin account is highlighted as active. Again, I'm in unfamiliar territory with W8.

This is an older laptop. Even though it is new, I bought it yesterday, factory sealed on clearance. It is probably about a year or so old.

Jon, see my previous post. The first linked tutorial tells you how to add a new user, for Windows 8 follow Option One Steps 1 through 5, then step 8 for a Microsoft Account or step 9 for a local account.

The second linked tutorial (Option One) tells you how to change the new user account's type to administrator.

Thanks all. I've gotten it corrected. Was just having trouble getting to the MS accounts page to change the info. Not hard once there, just laborious with all the verification steps. I think I'll stay with W7 myself. I'm a member of your sister W7 forums and have been for a while. Thanks again everyone.
