I want to skip Microsoft account login

Hello. Does anyone here link their microsoft account with windows 8? How do I skip the login screen which requires me to enter my email and password when I boot each time? I know if local account we can skip this part by using the "netplwiz" method, but if we set up a microsoft account it seems like there is no way to skip it. I wants to remain Microsoft account but I want to bypass password screen on boot. Is there a way to do so?

Hello, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You can use the method in the tutorial below to have Windows automatically sign in to your user account at startup.

My problem is solved. Turns out that the Automatically log on box had my default username on it and I did not change it to my microsoft account. Thanks for the link. May I suggest to add something in that article? I found this extra info which I think would be good to include in here to help to other users who face the same problem as me. Just a suggestion though

Info I got from other sites:
If you're using a Microsoft account, be sure to enter the entire email address that you use to sign in to Windows 8 with in the User name field. What defaults there might instead be the name associated with your account, not your actual Microsoft email.

    Great news.

I'm not sure where you are referring to enter the full email address at though. You don't enter anything other than the password when using netplwiz.

I'm guessing he had switched/logged in with a local user account when he ran netplwiz. Instead of the live ID e-mail it just listed his username in the Users list. If I run control userpasswords2, and then click properties for my live ID user account, it will show Kerry for my username. That jives with what is shown in C:\Users\Kerry. As you say I'm only ever prompted to enter my password when I uncheck the box for users must enter a password.

Oh. I was referring to the username part. Like in the picture the username is "Brink". For me it was my username but strangely I had to change it to my email address instead, meaning typing my email into the username column. Otherwise when windows auto log me in it keeps saying wrong username.

Ok, I log in with my live ID. When I setup the auto logon, my live ID is listed in the list of users. When I select it and uncheck the box for users must enter a password I get the box you posted above. In the username field mine just says Kerry. I didn't change it and just added my password. I shut down and booted up again and auto logged in no problem. I can access the store and my Metro Apps work so I must be logged in with my live ID.

I guess so. Normally the user name displayed there is just a reference of the name of your "C:\Users\(user-name)" folder used for the Microsoft account, but actually uses your real user name when automatically signing in.

If you were logged in under your local account instead of a live ID, when you setup the auto logon, that may be why. That's my guess, I'm not going to test my theory though.
If its working now I wouldn't worry about it.
