Password still required on boot up

    Hi All.

Ever since I changed my online Microsoft password, I've been getting an error when booting my desktop with Win 8.1 saying (upon boot up) that the password is incorrect. I have to manually type it in now.

When I turn on the computer, I previously had not needed to enter a password at all (control userpasswords2 shut it off). When I check my password under the User Accounts section, manually typing my password gets me in fine and when I go to the change password section, it won't let me change the current password to itself, so I know that it's stored my new password in that section.

I don't want to type in a password at all when I boot up.

It's as if my desktop has the old password stored somewhere and is trying to use that, but I can't figure out where that would be or why it's even checking for a password in the first place.

How do I either shut off password checking entirely (userpasswords2 is still set to not require a password, so I don't know why it's still checking) or change whatever password is still being used?

    thanks in advance,

    Frank

Hello Frank, and welcome to Eight Forums.

See if the tutorial below may be able to help. In addition to making sure that you have Windows set to automatically sign in to the account at startup, check the items listed in the yellow tip box at the top of the tutorial to see if one them may be the issue as well.

Log On User Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup

    Hope this helps,

Thanks. Turning userpasswords2 on and off so that I got a windows OS prompt to enter a new password when the computer boots up did the trick.
