My laptop was stolen a couple of months ago and I was wondering if I could retrieve that pc account and access my old documents with my new laptop? (Both laptops are: Dell, Windows 8)

the account you can. when you set it up you can choose to use an existing account, then use same credentials. If they were changed you should be able to recover the new pass with forgot password stuff. For the documents... the only way would be to access the old laptop or if they were stored in the cloud or other online back up...

If you stored your documents only on your laptop and then lost it then they are lost. It is possible (if you want) to save documents using OneDrive or Dropbox so when you lose your laptop you can get them back as they are replicated to Microsoft (or Dropbox or whoever) servers. If you didn't do this then you can't - simple as that. If your documents were only on your laptop and you lost it is the same as losing a hat or umbrella or something.

Unfortunately whoever found your laptop CAN see your documents unless you encrypted them in some way. Depending what documents you had (like private data) you may want to consider if that is a problem for you.

Sorry

Ah okay, thanks. I thought that since I had made an account in order for my laptop to not be viewable by anyone who tried to use it, that documents were part of that account.

Well it is possible. If you set the default to save to OneDrive (http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/31690-onedrive-save-documents-default-windows-8-1-a.html) then you can still see them by going to onedrive.live.com. It might be worth checking if you have a microsoft account as perhaps that is the default.

If you use bitlocker or similar (http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/21271-bitlocker-turn-off-os-drive-windows-8-a.html) then no-one will be able to see your documents in the case of loss. Otherwise even if you don't know the password you can just plug the hard drive into another PC and see anything.
