option to disable lock screen win 8.1

Brink
I wanted a 'ghost' or blank for my MS start screen but still want to sign in . I am afraid to mess things up again. Does this do this for you? I ask because I know you can get out of a jam.
Peter

>Disable lock screen, win 8.1 pro

First hit Windows Key + R to bring up the Run dialog and type:gpedit.msc
Next, navigate toComputer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel >Personalization. Then in the right panel under Setting, double click on Do notdisplay the lock screen.
Change it from Not Configured to Enabled. Click OK to save thesetting.
Next time you restart your computer or device, you won’t see thelock screen — just the login screen. Disabling the lock screen only saves you aclick or flick of the screen, but if you don’t use it, and time is essential, disabling it is easy.

A workaround to remove the user account picture would be to use a solid color image for your user picture that's the same color you have set for your backgrounds. You'll still have a user account picture, but you won't see it since it's the same color as the sign in screen's background color.

Yeah, it's safe to disable the lock screen if you like.

I di not mean to make a mountain of a mole hill and it is not a problem.
I was trying to understand how to regain the white ghost like blank face I had before I tinkered.

I performed a system restore and I regained it. So much for tinkering and thank you for you patience.

I was afraid to disable the lock screen and was asking what I would see if I did so. Would I log in as usual with a password yet not see anything but the password box?

Oh, I had thought you wanted no user account picture. LOL

That default user account picture is located in the folder below to select it for next time.

%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Default Account Pictures

That's correct. If you disable the lock screen you would no longer see the lock screen to have to slide up to see the sign in screen.

It looks like M$ is storing those account pictures somewhere on their side. Yesterday I redone windows again, starting from W8 and up to latest updates, safety erase system disk, format, whole kitten caboodle, and as soon as I signed in with M$ account my old picture was back. Wander what else are they keeping there ????
PS. It's not in the One Drive either.

If you go to C:\Users\Public\AccountPictures and delete the folder with the long name/number, you should be rid of it.

I will keep it, that's not a problem, I was just wandering where it came from. That particular picture was nowhere on my disk during installation, no other HDDs were connected at the time and as I said before not even in the One drive or in the cloud.
