Don't Require Password on Wakeup Not working

I updated my friend's HP 500-056 computer from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Update. This is a twin to my HP 500-056 system.

I have the QuickLaunch and Programs toolbars set up on both; the only difference is that she has Classic Shell installed while I don't.

And now to the problem; although I've told the computer not to require a password on wakeup, no matter what I do, her computer won't mind that one instruction.

    Anybody got any ideas?

Hmmm... Classic Shell might have something to do with it but I'm not sure.

Maybe see if these two jive with each other:

Yes, they jive, Edwin. I've gone in and changed some things, but I don't think it's going to make a difference. I want back to the default settings and it shows as Custom Setup 2, which I never ordered!

    Hello Wynona,

Double check to see if any of the items in the yellow tip box at the top of the below may be the issue.

    Custom Setup 2
Looks like an entry from the 'Create a Power Plan' category, maybe try going back to 'Balanced'.

I did that, Edwin, but for some reason, things I order aren't sticking. I'm beginning to wonder if something else isn't amiss. I really don't want to reinstall, since this is a "store bought" system. I may have to, though.

Thank you so much Shawn! You have saved my sanity. It was the checkbox in the screensaver "On Resume Display the Logon Screen" that caused the problem.

My friend Barbara says thank you and everyone else here a million times over; she could have "dealt with it" but is so happy she no longer has to.

In Win 8 power options>advanced the "require a password on wake up" choice YES is greyed out, so it cannot be changed. How can this be set to NO? Note: This is not a USERPASSWORDS2 / Netplwiz issue, where one can check the box not to require a password. That box IS UNchecked. Thanks
