I am running windows 8.1 and have noticed I am not given a choice anymore between my account and guest account. I have gone to control panel (users and accounts) and Guest Account does not show. However when I go to turn on Guest Account, it is already on. It just will not show up on my login page. Any suggestions would be welcomed,

Thank you

Hello Luvthekeys, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If the Guest account does not show up in your "Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Manage another account", then where are you checking to turn on the Guest account that it displays there?
When you are on the sign in screen, do you have a back arrow button at the top left to click on to see all users?

Hope this helps for now, :)
Shawn

I checked as you asked and the guest account does show when I access "manage another account". It shows that it is on but yet it does not display at the log in screen. There is no back arrow on the log in screen. I know there is a guest account but the only option I have at the log in screen is my personal account.

One thing I did notice was a yellow exclamation in home groups with the message

"My actual name has joined your computer to a homegroup. You have not shared any of your libraries with the your homegroup. Click the link below to change what you are sharing. Dont shut down or restart your computer until sharing is finished."

I have no idea if this is relevant to why my guest account will not display on the logon screen. Do i need to belong to a home group or should I just leave the homegroup?

Thanks again for your help.

Tried your suggestion still of turning guest account off and rebooting then turning it back on and rebooting with no luck. The Guest account can be seen in manage other accounts and is turned on. I just do not see it when the computer boots up. I am only given my own account as a choice. Since at times other family members infrequently use my computer I would like to have them use the Guest account not mine. I removed myself from the homegroup but that made no difference. My account says I am the Administrator and is Password protected. There also a screensaver which locks after non use for a period of time. When I boot up the screensaver is active and I have to click on it to get to my login to enter my password. It used to boot up given me a choice of my account and guest account without having to click through the screensaver security screen. Dont know if that has anything to do with it.

@ Luvthekeys:
You could try leaving Guest Account off in Control Panel and adding another one in Metro PC Settings.
Just make it a Local Account without a password and name it 'Guest 2', (it won't let you name it 'Guest')
Granted, it doesn't fix your problem but it may be an alternative for now.

okay tried to create guest2 account however while it was created it too will not display on bootup. I was reading that if you require a username and password at login screen it would prevent guest account from showing up. However I have no idea if I enabled that option somehow or how to turn it off if I did. Thanks again for your suggestions, I am not giving up on this.

One quick thing you could check is Guest Account status: enabled or disabled in secpol.msc; (Local Policies/Security Options);
thought there may be an overriding glitch.

Thanks to both of you. I think I will live with it for now. But if you do think of something else I will try it. I can not access secpol.msc with my copy of windows. Home Premium 64 bit.

One last thing: what happens if you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete then click on 'Switch User'?

EDIT: with Guest Account On

I Tried Control Alt Delete the only option I got was my own account. Just one more thing, I have discovered that I can create accounts but none of them will display when the computer boots up. If I check "manage other accounts" they are there and switched on. I was hoping the problem was because of me switching something on or off but it looks like their may have been a glitch at some point. I might be more open to refreshing windows if I had a actual disk version. My Dell is supposed to have a version on the hard drive that is for reinstalling. If that does not work I might be without my computer until I can get a physical version. Is there a way I can check to see if the copy is on my computer. I know it is supposed to be in a hidden directory.

here is some additional information. If I go to file manager and under network i click users I get the following dialog box labeled Network error. "Windows can not access \\luvthekeyspc\users - Check the spelling of name. Otherwise there may be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve the problem click diagnose." When I click details I get the following. Error code 0x80070035 the network path was not found." If I click diagnose it returns, no problems found. I am not sure if they may have any bearing on my original problem. If I click on network it shows my printer, router and other devices.

Oh well at this time there will be only one account on my computer. The computer is running well and do not want to mess with it just to get a guest account. Again thanks for you assistance and the time you took to try to help me with my problem.
