Ok, I have been giving Windows 8 a good try, but I am having issues, probably with my brain.

I got the laptop used Dell 17), and wanted to just make it MINE. So, I found the proceedure for making me the one and only user, and administrator. Took me a bit, but sure enough, it worked, sort of. No other users now show up; until I go into c:/users. Then, the original guy is still there, and I am not. Of couse, if I go into files and folders, same issue.

But again, under control panel there I am as admin.

So, please set me on the correct path brfore this thing drives me to drink. I feel that I am on the cusp of enlightenment.

hello ,if the original guy is the owner of all the files /data and you don't need any of it . just go to users in control panel and create a new user[your name ] with admin rights ,reboot computer and log into to you the new user ,and go back to users in control panel and delete the other Guy's user acct ,then you should be the only user.

Ok I get that, and I did that, but when I go into control panel/user accounts, I am the ONLY one there, and I have admin rights. For some reason it is not being changed when I look into my c directory under users, or files. I just don't see why. I start up the laptop ,enter my NEW password under my name.

Hello Needlnoses,

When you created a new administrator account for yourself like in the tutorial above, did you sign in to it afterwards?

The new account's C:\Users\User-Name folder will not be created until you sign in to for the first time.

In addition, please post some screenshots showing what you are seeing. Be sure to black out any sensitive information in them before posting.

update

Ok, in case I am missing something in the startup sequence, here is what I have done 4 times. Restart.
I get the opening screen up that only has the battery icon and the wi-fi icon, date and time. At this time I am hitting the wi-fi icon (because it works) and I end up at the log-in screen where I see my name, email address a picture, and the password request. At this point I enter my new password. This takes me to the start screen. I click on the square icon for control panel, then user accounts where I see the rectangle that holds my name, email, admin, and password protected. So far so good.
Now I go into File explorer, open up C: drive users. Here lies the problem. It shows a default folder (folders are empty),the previous owners folder (loaded), and a public folder. No ME.

I will keep digging while I wait for help. Have not really had a chance to enjoy myself with windows 8, or move any of my stuff over from the old vista machine.

It sounds like you may have only switched the old account to be a Microsoft account instead of creating a new account. That would be why you are still using the same old C:\Users\(UserName) folder.

If so, then give this is a try:

1) Switch the account back to a local account.

2) Add a new administrator account so it will be a Microsoft account using your email address.

3) Sign out of the old account, and sign in to the added Microsoft account.

4) Once everything checks out ok. Delete the old account.

User account update.

I am investigating various options as I struggle with this. User Account control blocks me from trying to make any changes as it is the Admin account that I can't access. When I built this user account I entered the same password twice or it would not have worked. wrote down the password that I wanted. Also, I entered my name the way I wanted it to display, and it is not there. Very odd situation.

Tried it on the Microsoft site, but it said it needed more information. I won't give up, but I just with there was a quick way to just put this laptop back to square-one, but there isn't one that I know of. It would be nice to start actually loading it up and using it.
