It didn't give you an administrator account to be able to sign in to?

Are you able to reset Windows 8?

I have only a local account, and i built a microsoft account; neither have admin access; so, I am in trouble; may try calling Dell to see if they would receive the HD by mail and re-image it. i wonder it there is some piece of aftermarket software that would help.

    update

Been off for a while; probably didn't miss my saga.
Moved our RV from Casa Grande AZ to Indio CA; been busy.
Anyway, what I decided to do was to buy a copy of Window 8.1 and install it over top. Installation went well, but even though I was told Windows woud have all the required drivers, it did not have one to load up the WI-FI portion, so I only have LAN and BLUETOOTH available. I should be able to sit down a hunt around for the CORRECT drivers for the INSPIRON 17 / 3721 on line. I am now the ADMINISTRATOR. Before I start messing around too much, I think that I should figure out how to do a backup image. I am used to using Norton Ghost for this, so I should be able to find it in Windows8.

There you go for now, and I really appreciate the advice given.

I'm happy to hear that you got it just about sorted now.

Here's the drivers download page at Dell for your Inspiron 17 3721. The wireless drivers will be under the "Network - Driver" section.

It could. Windows Updates will also sometimes include driver updates for supported devices.

    Final broadcast; issue solved

Driver that solved the final issue was one for Windows 7. Now I get to actually learn 8.1. Simple things like opening folders full screen, etc.

    Thanks for the help.
