Solved Windows Password retrieval/reset problem

Win 8.1 Pro x64. All of a sudden SyncBack Pro is asking me for a Windows password when I go to change the backup schedule. I thought I knew it, but it and all the variations I can think of have failed and I can't find the paper I wrote it down on at the moment (limits of recent shoulder surgery don't help). I thought I was in a local/admin account as I was in Win 8, but UA shows this as a Admin account, PW protected. That's probably why there is no "Create a Password Reset Disk" option showing on the left or anywhere on my User Accounts page (vs. Brink's tutorial). See screenshot. Any suggestions for how to deal with this? Thanks,

You need to enable the built-in Administrator account, login to it then change the password for your normal account. This shows you how to enable the Administrator account so you can do this:

If you have a install DVD:
see here: How to Reset Your Forgotten Windows 7 Password the Easy Way
or here: Reset a Windows 8 Password without using any third party software
or here: User Account - Reset Password in Windows 7

If you DO NOT have a install DVD, see here:How to Reset Your Windows Password Without an Install CD

Hello highstream,

This must be for a Microsoft account then. The "Create a Password Reset Disk" option is only available for local accounts and not Microsoft accounts.

When it asks for a password, you should be able to enter any administrator account's password to approve it. Is your account an administrator type?

If it is an administrator account, then the tutorial below can help show you how to reset your Microsoft account password.

Hope this helps for now, :)
Shawn

Before doing anything more, I switched users to my Administrator account, then back. On the way back, it asked for a password and I realized it was the same I had been using for Windows Live, which I had stored in old emails. So I think that solves it for now. However, I did use Brink's tutorial (via Shawn) to strengthen the password. And yes, it's written down... Thanks!

Great news highstream. :)

Yep, you are using a Microsoft account that uses an email address and it's password.
