Solved MS account password not in sync between Win 8.1 and Hotmai

I have a MS account in Win 8.1 which automatically logs me in.

Lately, I can only access my Hotmail and Skydrive through their respective Start Screen Apps. When I try to log on to either of them using my browser, I get an "Incorrect Password" message.

Although I didn't changed it, my password for Hotmail and Skydrive is not in sync with Win 8.1. So, is there any way for me to find out what my Win 8 password is so I can log in to my Hotmail and Skydrive accounts on the web?

Sorry, but I need to ask the obvious first question. Do all of these share the exact same email address, and is indeed the same Microsoft account and not two by mistake?

While you can't find out your Microsoft password, you could reset it to hopefully have them be synced afterwards.

Yes, all share the same email address. I only have the one MS account. I was afraid to try to reset as you suggested because I AM able to get to Hotmail and Skydrive through the App screen, and didn't want to mess that capability up.

Won't the reset procedure require me to know the current password? Because that's my problem. I don't know what the OS thinks my password is now.

You could use OPTION TWO with step 5 in the tutorial above to go through the steps to reset your password without knowing what your current password is.

Thank you Shawn! I was able to reset my password. I still have no idea how it got changed in the first place. Seems to have happened around the time I upgraded from Win 8 to Win 8.1.

Just to be safe, you should monitor your Microsoft account's activities for a while to see if anything unusual stands out as you not doing it.

Well, my password problem has flip-flopped. After changing my MS acct password, I can now log in to both Hotmail and Skydrive. However, every time I start Win 8.1, I get the incorrect password message. When I enter the MS acct password that I recently changed, it lets me in. Is there any way to get Win 8.1. to sync with the correct password?

It sounds like you need to go through step 4 in the tutorial below again to use the new correct password. It's still using the old incorrect password.
