You will not be able to open PC settings and modern apps while signed in to the built-in elevated "Administrator" account. The modern UI and apps do not work in while signed in to an elevated account since explorer is running elevated as well.

Did you already create another user account and make it an administrator as previously posted?

You should be able to unless you have disabled UAC. Double check to make sure that your UAC settings are set to the default level.

If it is, then go through the troubleshooting steps below to see if one may help.

User Account is in the default position. The apps store trouble shooter said i need a microsoft account. I have one but it will not load and i get a temporary account.

I am about ready to bite the bullet and reinstall win 8 pro, even if I do lose half my apps.

Were you able to go through the correct user profile error tutorial previously posted while signed in to your built-in Administrator account to try and fix the temporary account issue?

For now, you could switch your local account to a Microsoft account.

Brink...I rechecked my external hard drive for a backup and found one that was a disk and partition backup. So the good news is I am back to normal win 8.

That's great news. This is a perfect example of why system image backups are very good to have.
