Unwanted User Account Showing Up

Recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 on three PC’s on home network but now I’m having a problem on my ASUS VivoTab Smart Tablet.

My main login screen has been setup to show three (3) users but shortly after upgrading, it started showing a fourth user. The user name for this fourth user is “zqtjerxnjfcz”. When I clicked on it, it started the customizing process for a new user. As soon as I could I signed out and logged in under my own account and then deleted this new unwanted account but it keeps returning, usually after a restart or signing out and back in.

I’ve searched on that user name and got nothing … any ideas?

After reading a response to a thread in the SevenForums by drockmd, which seemed similar, I ran a test. I put my Tablet in “Airplane” mode, to disconnect from the Internet and the unwanted User Account kept re-occurring. This lead me to believe whatever it was, was on my tablet. Then I disabled my ESET Smart anti-virus program and the problem stopped.

I contacted ESET Support and they quickly responded that it’s related to their anti-theft feature. I replied back that I had already created a special account for their anti-theft program, back in February, when I purchased my tablet and had no problems until recently. ESET replied back “We apologize about the confusion that’s being caused from our program. We are aware of the situation and I will report this to our developers.”

If you’re having a similar problem and don’t need to turn on the anti-theft feature you can probably solve your problem by turning it off and then deleting that user account. If you need it to be turned on then accept this new phantom account as the norm until they decide to change the implementation. I personally don’t think much of their new technique. I never got any notification that they were changing how this feature worked and it sure made me think that my tablet had picked up a virus or some malware. I wasted a lot of time on this. I really like ESET and haven’t had a problem since installing it several years ago on multiple machines until this and I don’t like how they’ve changed the implementation.

Thats good to know, thanks for the information - I use ESET, but I never use Smart Security, I leave it at Antivirus and that's it - SO I havent seen this happen, so when it does now I'll know whats causing it.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
No problem http://www.eightforums.com/member.php?u=21435XweAponX ... I have two (2) desktops with Windows 8.1 and ESET but only the tablet is doing this. I guess it's cause I only turned the anti-theft feature on for the tablet.
