PC keep asking password on wake-up despite changing it

I followed the steps here: Password Protection on Wakeup - Enable or Disable in Windows 8

It works, but after a reboot and stand-by after a certain amount of time, the option resets itself. Any1 know how to fix this?

This started 1 month or 2 ago.

Also, i notice that in one place it says password wake up is on and another place says it is off.

That one setting that is greyed out will take precedence over all others.

Click the blue link that says "Change settings that are currently unavailable" - And then set that to "No" - It should remain set to "No"

Certain Antivirus programs like Mcafee for one, will try to SET THAT VALUE BACK to it's original value. McAfee does it for sure, Norton may also do it, not sure abut any other AV suits, but you can disable that feature from within the AV program - Or simply remove Mcafee. I use Eset, Eset 5 and 6 does not do it, and I just put 7 in, that also does not have that irritating feature.

If it keep[s getting set back to "Yes" it's a Program that is doing it, I'm guessing Mcafee, but check your AV program for a feature that resets Computer settings back to a predefined set. Also, slide your UAC all the way down to the bottom.

even if i change it to no, it will reset back to yes after some reboot. I have windows defender/MSE since day 1 on windows 8 and this never happened b4.

I thought it was a virus but scanned it with my a/v and malwarebytes and i was clean.

i read somewhere where someone had a similar issue, i think he solved it by using a local account/user instead.

i don't think it's cause by my recent install of programs. I recently installed CCleaner, battlestation: Pacific, GFWL, skype, batman arkham origins, and battlefield 3.

it can't be caused by a windows update because i never installed any updates since the beginning.

I turned my UAC all the way down, going to see if it works.

Can you get into Group Policy Editor? Maybe there is a setting in there. I'll have to look around in there to see if I can find it.

If you are using Microsoft Security Essentials aka Defender, that may be causing it, open Defender and see if there is a setting to protect your system from settings changes. I cant open mine cos I'm using Eset and it's locked off, I can check in my other system though,

for windows defender, the only thing close to what u just said is turning off/on real-time protection. Turing UAC all the way down didn't work, it resetted back to yes.

what do i look for inside group policy editor? For now, i'm going to try using a local user instead.
