Solved remove mandatory login at the lockscreen

I want to eliminate the password on the lock screen so my wife can get on the computer while I am out of the house. When I type "gpedit" in Run, I get the message, "Cannot find gpedit.msc. Make sure you typed the word correctly and try again."

Is there a way to access Local Policy Group by using the Windows Explorer?

I want to remove the mandatory login at the lockscreen. I don't need passwords on this computer.

Thanks,

Daniel

Group policy is supported only in Professional and Enterprise editions of Windows 8.1. In the standard edition both gpedit.msc and the infrastructure necessary to support it does not exist. I am sure what you want can be done through the registry but I have no details. Modifying the registry directly is serious business.

I will check it out. As it stands now, the computer logs into the Lock Screen where I have to enter my password.

Disable Lock Screen Fails to unlock in Win8.1

I just upgraded to Win8.1 from Win8 last night. I have been experiencing the password prompt when the computer comes out of sleep mode. I want to eliminate this so others can use the PC in my household. I have tried every trick while searching Google and hours on the phone with HP. We have gone thru all the screens to diable password prompt without success. gpedit.msc does not work either. I get an error saying it does not exist. I have also modified the registry without success. Please help!

Hello Daniel,

Double check using the tutorial below and one in the yellow Tip box to make sure that password protection is disabled in each to see if that may help.

Hope this helps, :)

Be sure to also check the items listed in the yellow Tip box at the top of the tutorial to see if one may be causing this as well.

I have tried all 4 options. Your screen examples match Win8, but not exactly Win8.1. I am still unable to disable password on screen wakeup. I have mine set to 1 minute for testing. Every time the screen blanks out, I wiggle my mouse on my HP Pavilion 23 All-in-One system and I am presented with this annoying screen lock screen in which I have to enter my system password. Please test this on a Win8.1 system and let me know. I did not have this problem in Win8. Thank you...

Gandolf,

The settings are the same in Windows 8.1 as well. Please post screenshots show what you are seeing different to see if it may help.
From your description, it sounds like you have screensaver password protection enabled. Double check again using step 3 in OPTION ONE of the tutorial below to make sure the On resume, display logon screen box is unchecked.
