Win 8.1 insists I log into Microsoft Account

My Win 8 installation, upon a power on startup or restart, booted to the Start screen without going through the process of logging in. I don't recall how I accomplished that. I just upgraded to 8.1 and it insists on logging into my MS account and requires I enter my account password.

How do I get 8.1 to avoid that step?

    Thank you.

    Hello JJG,

I can only assume that you previously had a local account and you (somehow) changed to an MS account. This tutorial may help you revert to a local account if that truly is/was the case:

Local Account - Switch to in Windows 8

    Good luck.

If you want to log onto your home pc using your Microsoft account, Can your pc remember your Microsoft password so you don't have to type it in each time?

I'm the only one accessing that pc and I'm not bothered about security.

That, for sure, is what happened! When I upgraded from the store, I couldn't find a way to avoid the Microsoft Account.

Your link provided the fix and I will give it a try later.

    Thank you.

After upgrading and restarting I had a screen for my admin account (local) but it was asking me to input my Microsoft account details. I can't remember what I clicked (think it was create a new Microsoft account) but it took me to a screen with a load of input boxes for information. Right at the bottom there was another option for a local account. Again I can't remember what the text actually said because I was in a rush but it allowed me to log in without a Microsoft account and I didn't have to set one up.

It is a little social engineering to get you to use the cloud/microsoft more IMHO. I could not get past that screen so used my hotmail info then when all finished with the install changed from the microsoft info to a local account as I've used in the past.
