How to change incorrect administrator email address

Hi all,

When I set up my computer, I accidentally made a typo in my email address. I'm trying to download some Microsoft software from the internet and this typo is causing me dramas because it's not a real email address and I can't go any further with downloads without verifying the email address by accessing a verification email in an email address that doesn't exist!!! Confused? Yup, me too.

It seems like such a simple thing but I cannot find a way to go back and change the administrator email address. I can't find an option to do so in account users. I have made a new account user using my real email address but... I just keep hitting brick walls.

Can any kind and knowledgeable soul help me with this? Preferably using layman's terms?

A thousand thank yous.

Jen.

Thanks Popeye,

I tried the instructions in the link you posted but to no avail - ran into all sorts of problems going down that route.

I did check out another of the threads and have created a new user via Settings and then gone into Control Panel and reassigned each user so that the user with the correct email address is now the administrator. However!! The trouble with this method is that all my user settings, files and software are still with the old incorrect user, so it's a pain flicking between the accounts to access different options.

So... not sure if there's a solution to this.

It's a shame that such a seemingly simple operation as changing a user's email address should be this complex.

Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate it.

Jen.

Try the following...

You can use Windows Easy Transfer to copy the settings and documents to a different account.

In the Wizard select to store the data into a transfer file. After the backup is finished, go to the 2nd account, run the Wizard again and select this is the destination PC and restore the settings from the file.

The Startscreen layout is stored in a file called appsFolder.itemdata-ms under C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows.

If the transfer wizard doesn't copy the layout, copy this file into the new account.
