    Generic desktop at startup

    Hello.
Suddenly when I restart Windows (8) it goes to the generic desktop and if I click on esc it then goes to my user name and I have to click on it to go to my desktop. It used to go to my user name and log in automatically (without me having to click on it) until a few days ago.
Any ideas how I can fix this and what could have caused it?
    Thanks!

Hello Paul, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Double check using the tutorial below to set up automatic sign in again to see if that may help.

    Hope this helps,

Well, now the generic screen is back after the update and it didn't work to disable it the old way. Then I found this thread: Lock Screen - Enable or Disable in Windows 8

So does it mean that if I don't have the Pro version of Windows 8.1 I am condemned to see that screen until the end of my life?
    Thanks for your suggestions.

No. You could use OPTION ONE in the tutorial you linked to instead.

The screen is gone, thanks, but I still have to click on my account because it says it is locked?

    You're welcome Paul.

Yep, when you lock the PC, it requires you to sign back in to unlock it. If your account doesn't have a password, then just clicking on the user account picture on the sign in screen will unlock the PC instead.

Thanks, but it didn't do it before I upgraded. I never really "locked" it. Well, of course it is not a big effort to click , I was just wondering why.
