Microsoft Account Alias

When I set up my Windows 8 computer, I created a Microsoft account with a Verizon.net email address. I have since turned off the Verizon.net email and opened an email account at hotmail.com. I changed my email address on my Microsoft account but I cannot change my Alias so that the correct email address is displayed. When I select either "Rename" or "Add Alias" on the Microsoft account website, I get to either select "Create a new email address as your primary alias" or "Use an existing email address as your primary alias".

Here are the results of both selections:

"Create a new email address as your primary alias": "...@hotmail.com isn't available"

"Use an existing email address as your primary alias": "You can't use @hotmail.com in your Microsoft account email address..."

So how do I get the correct email address to display when I turn on my Windows 8 computer?

Thank You...

Thank you for your reply. I followed those instructions, but I still get the results in my original post. For some reason, the "Use an existing email address as your primary alias" option will not allow a hotmail.com email address.

Just for the record, I have used anything@hotmail.com as my primary email address so I'm sure it can be done. Hang in there a bit and one of our tutorial experts (and admin) might be able to help you with this.
Good luck.
