    changing PC name

    I recently purchased 3 Gateway laptops to send to relatives overseas. These laptops have the Windows 8 OS (which I know very little about). I wanted to prepare the laptops ahead of time by installing some software and removing some "bloatware" so that all they would have to do is open them up and begin using them. When I initially powered them up, I had to assign names to each one. Not knowing the names of the end-users, I assigned my own name to each one. Now that I have the laptops ready to ship, I wanted to change the names to something generic like "user". I have tried making name changes but it always reverts to the original name. When the PC powers up, my name is on the "start" screen. Where do I go to make these changes?

    Control Panel>All Control Panel Items>User Accounts>Change your Account name>type change>click 'Change Name';

    Control Panel>All Control Panel Items>System>Advanced System Settings>Computer Name tab>click on 'Change' dialog>type new name>OK>Apply>OK. (may have to restart)

    You can use the Advanced System Settings to change the actual name of the PC as well. Open Personalization and get the Computer icon on the Desktop. Right Click on "Computer" and choose Properties, then to to the First Property Sheet, "Computer Name" - I always use names that describe what the PC is, like "ASUS-PC" or "DELL-PC" etc.,

    Consequently, if you want to change the User name, don't change the name of a current account, make a new account and name it how you want, saving the files of the original account after you delete it. Because if you change it, you have an account that is named one way, but the Files are named for the original user. This eventually hoses the whole system.
