    user Login password

Hope this is the proper forum.
I'm having a few problems (symptoms) of a login in problem. The good news - I no longer need a password when W8 'wakes up.' But I still need a password (PIN) on startup. That I want to eliminate.
But that's not all. I've found 3 different ways to remove the password. None work. I've found I can reset my password but I nee my email address and Microsoft Account (apparently a number) which I don't know and don't see it in my documentation.
I'm using (rather, trying to) Syncback as my backup app. When I create a schedule for a run, I get a prompt for my Windows password. I enter my login password but get an "incorrect password" prompt. It is NOT the incorrect password.
Are all these symptoms of one problem? How do I find/remove my W8 password?

Hello Alias, and welcome to Eight Forums.

The tutorial below can help show you how to have Windows 8 sign in to a user account of your choice automatically at startup.

Log On User Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup

The password for your Microsoft account will be the same as for the email account used for it. You cannot remove a password for a Microsoft account, but you can change or reset it if needed.

Microsoft Account Password - Change or Reset in Windows 8

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thanks for the quick reply. Did that already.
I believe that is how I eliminated password prompt on wake. Still get the prompt on startup. Still would like to know my Windows Account. (BTW, I THINK I saw a screen with that and Product Key, but can't find it now.)

The above would be for startup, while the method below would be for wake up. Double check to make sure you have it set properly above, and with the correct password.

Thanks. I'll try it as soon as I can.
I suppose I know the password to my Microsoft Account - I don't know what my Microsoft Account is. On the change screen I'm asked to fill in a box with my Microsoft Account. I have no idea what that is.

Keep in mind my additional (different?) problem. My backup sw creates a backup schedule by accessing/changing a schedule in Task Scheduler. When I attempt to do that in the backup sw (SyncBack) or create a scheduled task inside Task Scheduler, I'm prompted for a Windows password. My entered password is said to be incorrect. It is NOT.

If you created the task in Task Scheduler, then you may need to edit the task to change and enter your password again to make sure it's correct.

You would sign in to Windows 8 with either a local or Microsoft account. If you used a Microsoft account, that would be the one that you registered an email address with.

Thanks for being patient. I think we're making progress. Used your tutorial to change my password. On startup I was prompted for a password. Tried Local and Microsoft Account. Plugged in my new password . . . failed. Old password. Failed. All my most common passwords. Failed. Changed to PIN. entered it. I'm in. Still, ALL Windows 8 passwords fail even after changing to a new can't-forget-it-that-fast password. I'm still lost on the Microsoft Account stuff. When I attempt to go online and change my password, I'm prompted for 3 pieces of information. Microsoft Account, email, Enter characters I see. https://account.live.com/password/reset What do I plug in to "Microsoft Account?"

It sounds like you may have a local account instead.

Do you have another administrator account that you can sign in to use to change your account's password with?
If not, then while you are sign in to your account using the PIN number, see if you are able to create/add a new administrator account to then sign in to and be able to do the above for your account.

OK, I succeeded in changing my Windows password . . . I think. I got a text congratulating me on changing it. Restarted Windows. Got to the password prompt and entered my new password. "Incorrect."
    What am I missing?

Did you do this with a local or Microsoft account?
