    Personal Folder Location Properties

When I complete a re-install of windows 8 I always redirect my personal folder locations to my second hard drive. That way I don't need to move files back and forth but now something happened in the process of setting my pictures folder location. There was no sign that anything was wrong but only a blank icon with no text and I'm unable to click on it. The redirect did not work and now there is a "dead" icon where my picture folder should have been.

Now I'm not talking about the library but personal folders under the user folders in C:\. I need someone to show me how to fix this in the registry because it is completely f'ed up for no reason.

    LOL funny how that happens...
I think I may have fixed the problem. I typed the new location as E:Pictures and it should have been E:\Pictures. Why doesn't windows allow us to fix this vary little mistake without having to edit the registry? I will restart and let you guys know if that did fix it.

A picture's worth a thousand words, but anyway... Set your path in
    Code:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Two far more easier, faster and reliable methods, both require no registry editing:

To move Users folder completely with all individual user profiles (existing and future) including all user specific folders:

To move individual user folders manually:

They both appear to make you run around the block three times just to a simple redirect.

All I do is change the file location under the location tab in properties for each folder. My mistake was I mistyped in the folder path and windows 8 lost its frigging mind.

I don't think you are suppose to edit the registry settings for the various user folders, you should use the folder's context menu's Location tab.

Yes, that's the way I do it - Also, Windows 8 is pretty good at organising your Libraries all by itself: I did NOT set this up, Windows did it during install. From within the Libraries folder, you can set them up to be anywhere and use any extra locations you want to add.

If you read again what I did in the first place you will see I had no other choice but to edit the registry.
