Microsoft account sign-in assistant broken

Hey,

I had a problem earlier with certain folders not opening. I've now found out that it's the microsoft account sign-in assistant service. When it is enabled, I can't access the folders (D:\ drive and Music folder on my desktop) and Windows store and games are unable to log in, they just remain at the loading screen forever. When I disable it, the folders work but the store and games apps say "Can't sign in, try again later".

So I'm stuck here with no access to the store or any of my apps that require a log-in.

Is there a way to fix the sign-in assistant without doing a refresh? I've done a refresh a few months ago and I'm not willing to go through it again (hundreds of programs and games installed already).

Please advise!

Well, I hate to say it, but a lot of people are having problems due to upgrade. It's like buying a used car. One is really never sure of what one has bought. Usually change out all the fluids and pray for the best!

Are you positive your hard drive is performing well? Have you run tests on it? I suggest you perform that.

Have you been doing any fiddling with settings? If so, what?

I see in earlier posts you performed scannow to no avail. You may want to try www.eightforums.com/showthread.php?t=21051

All in all we'll try to avoid a refresh or better yet a fresh install, but it may be inevitable.

The only settings I've fiddled with is disabled google update and skype update from the startup and everything to do with Hyper-V from services (as I don't use it).

The HDDs are tested with HD tune, smart is good and so is the health check.

I've also tried the app store troubleshooter program from microsoft, plus WSreset.exe, after the problem started occurring.

It has something to do with the sign-in assistant as whn I have it enabled, it keeps giving an error under Event viewer about not being able to start (every minute or so...). When I check it under services, it says the service isn't running. When trying to manually turn it on, it gives an error:
"Windows could not start the Microsoft Account Sign-In Assistant service on local computer. Error 0x80048883: 0x80048883"

If there's anything I could try to give a clue of what's causing it, please tell me. I'm willing to try whatever it takes ;)

To the best of my knowledge, it is trusted. Everything worked fine until like a week ago, when I stopped getting e-mail notificatons on my desktop from the mail app. A few days ago I uninstalled the mail, calendar and social apps to try and fix the issue (the mail app didn't sync and no notifiations). When I went to the store to reinstall the apps, I right-clicked, went to "your apps" and it told me to log in. I clicked the log in button, but nothing happened. That is as far as I've gotten.

I have to suggest a clean install at this point. You've tried a lot to fix it. I know it's a PITA, but I think you'll be better off in the end.

A refresh is another choice, but I wouldn't.

I'm afraid it's just not an option for me; my data wouldn't fit on the secondary hard drive and I'm not willing to depart with it. I'll just keep using windows 8 without the apps (only reason I bought the upgrade in the first place...)

Thanks for trying, anyway.

Ok. You may want to keep your thread open. I know I don't have all the answers. Someone else may have a solution for you. Good luck to you.

Well, my problem is still here but I've noticed that I can update my existing apps just fine, even though the Windows Store doesn't allow me to log in.

Any ideas on how to get the sign-in assistant working are still welcome!
