    Change C:\Users Username

I'm trying to change my username, but not just through account settings.

I need to change the C:\Users\USERNAME folder name so that certain programs can install or save to a folder in that directory.

I'm currently using some special characters to make it look cool, but that's a problem now since programs can't read the characters in the username.

By special characters I mean holding down alt+ a combination of numbers. Example: ░Ω╙╥╙╘╒╓╫

Most programs do not read that, and I constantly have to move the .exe files to public folder to install anything.

Also I can't save files as easy, most programs don't read the special characters in the directory name so they skip over them and give an error that it can't be found...

Create a new useraccount with the right username AND administrator rights. Move al your stuff over there and close out the other account.

That's the only option I know to change the name under C:\Users.

    Good luck with it!

    Hello ProtoType,

For what you are wanting to do, it's best to create yourself a new administrator account to use instead as Der Snoober posted above.

There's a method to properly rename the user folder, but it often breaks programs already installed, and is not recommended.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'll do what was said.

BTW: I've been playing around with this, and it's not exactly a bad thing.

It actually improves security a bit since unwanted programs can't access the directories because it can't be read.

I've been messing around and found that programs can't retrieve or save some data which is good in some cases.

So although it's a bit of a hassle, It can actually help in the future...

    Thanks again!
