I accidentally typed in my email address wrong when setting up my new laptop which has Windows 8. I can't even log in to the computer at all without verifying the email address...but it's not a real address. What do I do? I thank you all for any help.

Wrong email address entered during acct setup

I too managed to type in an incorrect email address during admin setup so now I can't verify the account or change the email address? How can I address?

Hello Arlingtonfan, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Whatever email address you typed in during the creation of the account is what was used. Since it was incorrect, it most likely created a new account with that address?

Were you able to use the tutorial above using the incorrect address and it's password to verify with?

If all else fails, you could reset Windows 8, and enter the correct address then.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Thanks for the reply. My screeen doesn't show a field for 'email address change' as it does in the tutorial. Instead it displays as 'rename account'. All other titles are as shown in the tutorial. When I check on rename account it displays the message 'the email address associated with you Microsoft account can't be changed. Please help. I would hate to have to do a reset.

It's a workaround way of changing it when the normal method will not work, but be sure to add another email address first to be able switch to use instead.
