My son received a new HP laptop for Christmas, it is running windows 8. He changed his windows password and doesn't remember what it is. I never got the time to make recovery disks... Is there any way to reset the password? I tried downloading some windows password unlocker on my laptop, but couldn't ever get it to boot from the usb on his laptop. I'm not even sure that would work anyways...... Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should have a partition on the hard drive to restore your system to factory condition you will need to boot from that partition to reinstall the system.

You will need to go to the HP support for that laptop and get the pdf file and read up on how to do a system restore from the recovery partition it is a simple key press before the system boots which will give you choices to make. You need to find out which key to press.

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

I had a similar problem and got it resolved.
What you need is a boot disk. A recovery disk of windows 8 from any of your friends should do..you will just need to insert the first DVD.
On start up press F1 or which ever key to bring up bios. Change the boot menu to DVD Drive as the first option. Save and exit.
Insert the DVD and the sytem will boot up with windows repair options.
Choose reset windows (factory option) which will delete all existing data (none in your case as you have not stored any)
After having done that, reset your bios settings to Hard Disk Drive as the first boot up option, save and exit.
Your boot up should start in a normal fashion and you should be seeing the screen asking you to prepare a new account.

The other option for you is to create a universal boot disk (takes 1 CD space)..

This in the event you cannot get your hands on a windows 8 recovery Disks (usually it takes 4DVD's to make recovery).
Hope this helps.
