Hello , I need help with a simple stupid mistake...although im finding out nothing seems simple on Windows 8...I just purchased a new laptop for my son with windows 8 ( i have xp pro and i still am fond of it ) anyway , I wanted to set it all up for him (xmas ) and I filled in the registration with my name and email ( so id get the info if something went wrong or needed to be done ) and now it comes up as MY computer and desktop has MY name , password etc) can I change this to his ? And I got so frustrated that I wiped out the icon tile for emails , messaging etc...
Im sure once we get the hang of it it should be ok....but its NOT right now...and I was seriously thinking of upgrading myself...is that a huge undertaking ??? And last but not least...I cant seem to find any of the important system info...I want to install office 2007 pro on the laptop till I can afford a newer version....I guess I just need a detailed answer for all this that I can print...and thanks for any help....I feel like i've never used a computer before....

I would first try a system restore if I wanted to follow brummyfan's steps--to try to get things working again. Here is a tutorial on doing a Win8 system restore. Afterwards, if the restore goes well, then do what brummyfan says.

Other thoughts on what you might want to do. 1. use manufacturer's install recovery partition to return it to factory fresh. I favor this approach over those of 2. 2. If you have an intall DVD (or other medium), then you might want to refresh or reset your PC. In all these cases, you would be starting at least essentially from scratch and, thus, avoid brummyfan's suggestions. Be sure all data are backed up before doing any of these. As mentioned, you will need an install disc (or other medium to do the last two).
